Academy Courses
Course 1: Electronic Communications
(September)
|
Course #1 will
prepare participants to effectively use Electronic
Communications for the entire Leadership Academy
program. This course is the Academy "Admissions
Course". Students must successfully complete all
components of this course including the Final Exam
for full admission to the Leadership Academy
program. The course includes a history of Rotary
on the Internet and how electronic communications
has impacted the manner in which Rotary now does
business; use of the RI Member Access portal; use
of the RI web site; Rotary's use of Social Media;
and the student's ability to successfully search
the RI web site to obtain valuable Rotary
information; and use of the Academy Google Group.
The course includes a "Web Challenge", topics for
discussion on the Academy Google Group, a written
assignment, and a Final Exam. This course must be
completed by September 30,
2011 (including the Final
Exam) in order to be admitted to the full Academy
Program.

Course 2:
Membership
(October)
|
Course #2 will
provide participants with in depth instruction in
Rotary International's membership initiative. The
curriculum will include all of the latest material
provided by Rotary International as well as
numerous additional resources that will assist
students in formulating plans and ideas for
assisting clubs with membership development and
retention. There is a written assignment for this
course as well as Google Group discussion topics
and a final exam.

Course 3:
Club, District & RI Organization
(November)
|
Course#3 will
focus on the 2010 Manual of Procedure and Rotary
organization at the club, district and
international level. Due to the amount of
material required for this course, the course
covers six weeks rather than one month. There
is a written assignment for this course as well
as Google Group discussion topics and a final
exam.

Course 4: Public Relations for Effective
Rotary Club
(January)

Course #4
will give Academy participants a thorough
exploration of public relations and how it can
be used to develop effective Rotary clubs. It
includes Rotary's Public Image campaign,
including the "Humanity in Motion" series of
materials. There is a written assignment for
this course as well as Google Group discussion
topics and a final exam.

Course 5: The Rotary Foundation -
Future Vision Part 1
(February)

Course #5
is the first of two courses focusing on the
TRF Future Vision plan. As this course is
being completely redesigned and rewritten
this year, content for this component has
not yet been determined. Currently, it is
anticipated that this course will focus on
Club Certification and the District Block
Grant. (NOTE: This description will
be updated as the time for teaching both
courses draws near). There is a written
assignment for this course as well as Google
Group discussion topics and a final exam.

Course 6: The Rotary
Foundation - Future Vision Part 2
(March)

Course #6
is the second of two courses focusing on the
TRF Future Vision plan. As this course is
being completely redesigned and rewritten
this year, content for this component has
not yet been determined. Currently, it is
anticipated that this course will focus on
Global Grants. (NOTE: This
description will be updated as the time for
teaching both courses draws near). There is
a written assignment for this course as well
as Google Group discussion topics and a
final exam. |
Course 7: New
Generations
(April)

Course #7 was added to the Academy program
in 2011. This new Fifth Avenue of Service
course will cover all four components of
New Generations: RYLA, Youth Exchange,
Interact and Rotaract. It will focus on
the role that New Generations does and
will continue to play in Rotary and its
future including developing future leaders
and Rotary's mission to bring peace to the
world. The course is broad based and will
also include RI's abuse and harassment
policies. There
is a written assignment for this course as
well as Google Group discussion topics and
a final exam. |
